Our client in the Education sector is looking to recruit a Head of Teaching with extensive experience in higher education teaching, demonstrated excellence in student-centred teaching methodologies and familiarity with various pedagogical approaches and learning theories

Minimum Requirements:
The successful applicant will meet the following requirements:
- Relevant Masters degree (preferably a PhD)
- Extensive academic experience in a Higher Education Management role
- Experience in managing a range of stakeholders
- Extensive experience in higher education teaching/facilitation (in-person and online.)
Ideal Competencies:
The successful applicant will have the following competencies:
- Sound knowledge of curriculum/programme design and development models within the context of SAQA regulations
- Excellent knowledge of active learning pedagogical methods
- Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technologies
- Excellent ability to guide teaching staff with timely, accurate and constructive input, feedback and development in Blended teaching environments.
- Excellent Change Management skills in a constantly changing higher education environment
- Computer literate with a thorough understanding of shared workspaces – Preference will be given to Google Workspace, GSuite, Excel, Microsoft Office.
Duties:
The Head of Teaching will form part of the Faculty Management Team and will be responsible for and focusing on the relevant tasks associated with this role. It includes:
Educational Leadership:
- Efficient Organisation and Management of Teaching across the institution
- Mentorship and orientation of new teaching staff (lecturers/tutors)
- Coordination among and liaison with Academic Heads, Programme Coordinators and Academic Support
- Keep updated with new educational innovations and technologies.
- Ensure that teaching staff have effective pedagogical skills
- Support and foster innovative and quality pedagogy
- Work towards ensuring that education remains relevant to industry needs
- Work towards bridging research and teaching
- Contribute to the Learning and Teaching Model, Strategy and Policy in line with the Vision and Mission
- Build and promote an active community of best academic practices in teaching methods in a hybrid/blended teaching environment.
- Keep abreast of SAQA and CHE requirements with regard to curriculum development and teaching models
- Liaise with subject matter experts on the quality of course content in line with programme and module outcomes.
- Contribute towards ensuring that all academic staff (lecturers and tutors) update their knowledge and keep abreast of developments in their respective discipline through active participation in skills development on the Academic Community 1st Tuesdays, seminars, workshops, conferences and research.
- Encourage teaching which takes into account a diverse student population
- Engage with national and international higher education communities to share best practices in quality teaching
Performance Management:
- The measurement of the effectiveness of teaching in a blended/hybrid teaching environment
- Accountable for compliance with the policies and procedures of the IMM Graduate School.
- Coordinate and ensure equivalent teaching quality across campuses and Student Support Centres
- Identify skills gaps in teaching across all centres
- Develop and implement a Skills Development Plan teaching of teaching staff
- Schedule in-service training for teaching staff
- Submit any reports as may be required by Faculty.
- Develop a reward system for excellence in teaching
Administration Management:
- Maintain and update all records pertaining to teaching activities.
- Ensure that all teaching documentation required for the smooth operation of academic activities is available and used efficiently
- Ensure learning resources are timeously available to the eLearn members of staff
- Develop and coordinate performance measures of teaching at lecturer and tutor level
- Chair regular meetings with relevant stakeholders
- Contribute towards Academic Board reports
Communication and Relationship Management:
- Ensure that constructive working relationships are formed between academic staff at all levels
- Support Campus Academic Heads in the orientation of new teaching staff by providing relevant resources
- Provide feedback to the HOD: Learning and Teaching on the performance management of academic staff.
- Provide quarterly reports to the HOD: Learning, Teaching and Assessment on key responsibility areas.
Lecturing/Research:
- Lecture, assess and mark on one undergraduate module per semester OR present one conference paper or publish one article per year.
